Hello GeoGuessr! Imagine waking up on a lonely dirt road. GPS, map, and familiar faces are absent. You glance about at the reddish-brown earth, weird language signs, and the north setting sun. Where on Earth are you?
How to play GeoGuessr
The rules of GeoGuessr are extremely simple yet contain endless depth.
In each round, the system will "drop" you into a random location around the globe. Move, rotate your view, zoom in/out to observe your surroundings.
Collect clues from anything you see: traffic signs, vegetation, vehicle styles, building architecture...
Place a pin on the global map where you think you are. Your score increases as your pin gets closer to your location.
Compass
The sun is the ultimate clue. If you can see the sun in Street View, see which direction it's pointing.
Sun in the South: You live in the northern hemisphere.
Sun in the North: You are located in the Northern Hemisphere.
Language & Alphabet
Just recognise the letters, no need to grasp the meaning:
Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Serbian: often.
Latin letters with special marks (Ø, Æ, Å). You are definitely in Northern Europe, like Denmark and Norway.
The appearance of the letters Ç or Ã/Õ: Portugal or Brazil.
Traffic Rules
Look at the road. Does this country drive on the left or right?
Driving on the left: English, Australian, New Zealand, Japanese, South African, Indonesian, Thai drivers drive left. Instantly eliminates over 70% of countries with this hint!
Geographical & Architectural Traces
Soil Colour: Reddish-brown soil is commonly found in Australia (Outback region), Brazil, or Senegal in Africa.
Architecture: The "speciality" of Sweden is bright red timber homes (Falu red). Italian, Spanish, and Greek cultures have red tile roofs and the Mediterranean Sea.
License Plates: Countries that drive on the left-hand side include the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Africa, Indonesia and Thailand. Remove about 70% of the world's countries with this clue!
